The Guardian Work Experience

Recently I had the pleasure of spending 2 weeks at The Guardian for work experience, working on their Books section, predominantly with the Children's Books Team. I had such a fantastic time, getting to meet lovely authors Sally Gardner and Annabel Pitcher when they came in to record podcasts for the site, going to YALC at London Film and Comic Con and getting to see the Back to the Future cast and Cassandra Clare at the press conference there, as well as hearing prospective Labour leaders Jeremy Corbyn and Andy Burnham speak in morning conference - and those were just a few of the highlights!

The London Film and Comic Con Press Conference was incredible!

I also edited children and teenagers' book reviews for publication on the site - it's so wonderful to see young people enjoying reading like that, and the chance to review for a site like The Guardian is such a wonderful opportunity for them. It was brilliant to work with such talented journalists, who had such enthusiasm and passion for the importance of literature for growing minds. If you're young and want to get involved, find out how here!

Whilst I was there I wrote several articles and made a couple of quizzes - here are the links:

News article written from an embargoed press release:
Performance poet Joseph Coelho wins children's poetry award

Top ten piece:
The best reading records of all time

Quizzes:
Beatrix Potter character quiz
Celebrations in Harry Potter - quiz

Discussion piece:
Illness in YA fiction - do authors go too far, or not far enough?

I was very sad to leave this place!
